Meet Sonia from @sonish_space, our Mama Muse this week (and quite honestly our style inspo every week too!)
We get the full run down on Mama advice, must haves and her journey through parenthood, so keep on scrolling.
Tell us a little bit about your gorgeous family?
My name is Sonia. My husband and I were born in Sierra Leone and raised in Sydney. We moved to Brisbane 9 years ago, and we have three beautiful babies – Nathan (10), Naya (4) and Noah (6 months). I can’t forget our fur baby Cat, Mr Grizzly (2 years old). Our little family currently resides on the North side of Brisbane. We love watching movies and going for outdoor walks.
What was the one piece of advice that helped you through those early days?
I was in my mid-20s when I had my first child, and one piece of advice I received during that time that has stuck with me is ‘ask for help’. You can’t do it on your own.
Outside of being a great Mama, what are some things that you personally enjoy doing?
One thing I absolutely love is creating content for my Instagram page. I started my Sonish Space page as an outlet to get outside of my comfort zone and break all the barriers society has placed on how a mama should dress or act. My escape and joy 😊.
What advice would you give to a new Mama's?
Do you and do it at your own pace. Don't sweat the small stuff, and there is no right or wrong way in motherhood. Stay in the moments and enjoy them. It can be overwhelming and very stressful at times but know that you are doing your absolute best, so be patient with yourself. Always ask for help when you need it.
What are your top 3 baby must haves?
- My Chekoh baby carrier and wraps, for sure. Can you believe I didn't use them for my first two, and now I am asking myself why I was making my life so hard --- literally?
- Baby swing/rocker
- A good pram

What has been the highlight of your journey through parenthood so far?
Motherhood can drain and stretch you, and things get messy and crazy. Still, nothing beats the smile you see on your kids' faces. I look at my kids every day, and I thank God that I am so blessed to experience motherhood; you cannot compare anything to it. One of my biggest highlights is my capacity to love, be patient and show tremendous strength in situations that I myself didn’t know I had.
How has babywearing helped you, and where is your favourite place to wear your babe?
I love my babywearing when we go for bush walks. It frees my hands and creates that bonding with Noah and me while walking in nature.
What's next for you and your family?
Definitely, no more babies for us 😊. Instead, we are focusing on growing our businesses and travelling with our kids.
