Meet Beccy from @bxcsmxth a Sunny Coast photographer who creates absolute MAGIC when it comes to your bump, babies and family. We chatted with Beccy to discuss all things business, motherhood and photography tips for all you budding photographers out there!
Tell us a little about yourself and BXCSMXTH?
Helllllloooo, so my name is Beccy and I am Mumsy / photographer / ocean lover living on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
What has been your favourite project to work on so far?
I am obsessed with the underwater sessions that I offer and definitely feel most drawn to this type of work. I can’t even believe that my working days consist of swimming around with beautiful pregnant mummas and creating art / making life long friends. I'm constantly pinching myself and really just can’t believe how lucky I am and how much I love what I do.
We noticed you shoot a lot of beautiful bumps and families, were you always drawn to this style of photography?
I have always been drawn to this indeed, I am a super family oriented person and just love love! To begin with back in 2010 I started shooting weddings and absolutely adored capturing them and meeting different couples - My wedding photog business (XOX weddings) is my first baby and definitely where my love for photography started. Lately I feel I am more drawn to photographing pregnancy and anything underwater though… its a whole new world and allows me to be creative and think outside of the box. I feel like my photos are more art than anything now and after giving birth myself I have an entirely new respect and love for mums, pregnancy, birth and babies.
What song do you have on repeat at the moment?
I'm a shocker for a good old repeat… literally I will listen to the same one over and over and over again! I pretty much have the most random three songs on repeat that have nothing in common this month
Do you have any photography tips for the budding photographers out there?
Practise practise Practise :) Don’t be put off by all the competition out there and definitely don’t play the comparison game - it can be disheartening when you're starting out (or even when your established) and you get on Instagram and socials and are swamped by all this amazing work. I feel it all the time and it can get super overwhelming and put you off even trying! But it’s silly to think that way and will get you no where, you really just have to try remove yourself from all that background noise and just create from your own heart / have heaps of fun doing it!
And what about those wanting to start working for themselves - even as a side hustle?
Just trust in yourself and know that there is so much work out there. I found when starting out it was really helpful to offer some free/cheap shoots to people close to me. I would make sure that if I was doing these shoot it I was only photographing things that aligned with me and the style of work I was hoping to produce, that way you get to practise and also have beautiful art you can share with the world to show everyone what your all about! Then don’t be afraid to put it out there!
We heard on the grapevine that you wore your little one in a Chekoh! If you were to pick something from our collection now, what would it be?
Yes I loveeee my Chekoh carrier, I use it all the time with my little Hunni Stella who is now 15 months old ~ she still loves snuggling up close to me in it. When she was a newborn we rocked the Grey Stripe Wrap which we absolutely loved and now she is bigger we use the Ochre Clip carrier <3. I think in your new range my favourites would have to be the Moss Cord Clip or the Jett Clip! I don’t know there all stunning and super comfy!
If any of our Chekoh Mama's want to book in a bump session with you, at what point in their pregnancy journey should they reach out?
Reach out whenever, typically I will do the shoots from about 32 weeks onwards but everyone is different as to when they feel comfortable for this so get in touch and we will find the perfect time for you.
What is next for you, your family and BXCSMXTH?
Well well…. I am actually super excited as to where my business is heading at the moment. I am in the process of finishing an Underwater Photography course for photogs wanting to learn more about this method of photography. I have been working my butt off to get this out to the world and cannot wait to release it. As for my fam bam, we are off to Bali next week which I'm so blooming excited about and then in April we are off to South Aus for an adventure in the camper. Other than that hopefully lots of adventures, family time, slow days and creating more art! Also if we’re lucky enough one day soon another bubba would be such a blessing!
