I love you.
We like to save these words for special moments and people throughout our journey. However, love is a language that is not restricted to just three words. Grand occasions of love are often celebrated but it really is the small every day acts that make bonds grow stronger.
You may have also just increased your love bubble from 2 to 3! If you have a newborn, there’s a good chance you will be a party of 3 (or maybe more) this Valentine’s Day so life will likely be a little bit busier and an intimate late night dinner date might be a little far fetched for you and your partner right now.
We thought we'd make it a little easier for you, take a look at these 7 small gestures, an easy way for you to show your loved ones how much they mean to you this V day.
But alas, it's not only reserved for romantic relationships, these apply for anyone you hold close to your heart – A friend, a family member, a colleague or even a neighbour - spread that love like mayonnaise!
7 Ways to Say ‘I Love You’
1. Cook Breakfast
Slow down, enjoy a morning together and chat about the day ahead. Pressed for time? Make their fave morning drink in a takeaway cup/mug and it's ready for them to go. Bonus points also for cleaning up afterwards.
2. Leave a Note
Print out your most treasured photo together and write a message on the back. A small sentence of appreciation or just wishing them a fantastic day! Can't find a printer, don't stress, a little post it not with a love heart and smiley face is just as thoughtful.
3. Show interest in their hobbies
Does your loved one have a hobby or interest that you don't know much about (or maybe never wanted to)? If possible and just for the day, do it with them! Make it less interactive if you need and just simply ask them questions and listen with intent.
4. Relax Together
I can tell you've just thought 'yeah right' that's not an easy feat with a new baby and kids but you can! It doesn't need to be as big as a day trip to the beach, sun-chairs and cocktails but go get or give a massage, give back tickles or simply wind down to a movie that your loved one chooses (if your partner is anything like mine, just put on anything Denzell and they'll be stoked).
5. Laugh
Laughing makes us feel good and laughing with good company is even better. Book in a fun activity like an open mic night, laser skirmish or ice skating. Pessed for time? Text a funny joke or watch a funny video on YouTube together.
6. A Small Gift
Sometimes gestures don’t feel enough or we see something in the store and think of that special someone. Buy it and tell them you thought of them. Pressed for time? An online Flower delivery is always a winner!
7. Warm Embrace
Physical intimacy may not be something we can practice all the time at the moment but when safe (thanks COVID) give the ones you love a hug. I’m talking a big warm long hug, the kind that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Oh and of course don't forget our favourite kind of hug, the best one ever....... a Chekoh cuddle!!
Pressed for time? No you’re not, make the time for hugs!
Hope this helps a little, just remember to get your love on this V Day - the small things matter the most.
