New Mama Guide

Here's to your new role as a mum!

Being thrown into motherhood can be both exciting and overwhelming, but it is truly a gift to say the least. As a new mum, you are embarking on a wonderful new chapter in your life. It's the rollercoaster ride that keeps on giving! Luckily, there are many tips and tricks that can help make the transition easier for you. From adjusting to your new routine to taking care of your baby's needs, we want to share with you 10 helpful tips and tricks to empower you on your journey as a new mum.

1.Take care of your own needs

We put this as our #1 tip because your health should be just as much a priority as your babes. You can't fill from an empty cup, so don't let your own health take a backseat. Your bub needs you at full capacity to take care of them, so if not for yourself do it for your baby.

2. Don't be afraid to ask for advice from medical professionals

Don't be afraid to seek medical advice or help for any reason. It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed or unsure as a new mum, but don't let the fear of criticism or need to handle everything on your own prevent you from seeking professional advice. It's important to remember that seeking medical advice is a normal and responsible part of caring for your newborn, and that healthcare professionals are there to support and you through this process.

3. Use a baby monitor for peace of mind

We all know the the anxiety of thinking you can hear a crying babe from the other room, when in reality they are fast asleep without a worry in the world. So if you're going to purchase anything new, we suggest it be a good baby monitor. Save yourself the stress and find some peace of mind (and some extra sleep, we know you need it!).

4. Accept help when offered

When people offer help, remember it's not limited to just your little one. The next time someone says "Do you need any help?" try letting them help cook a meal, mow the lawn or fold the basket of clothes that's been in the same spot for a week. Remember Mama, every little bit helps, so let someone else give you a hand for a moment - they want to.

5. Don't compare your baby or parenting style to others

If there's one thing you take away from reading this today it should be NOT to compare your parenting style to others. What works for others, may not be what works for you and that is completely normal. Never feel discouraged from what is working for you or by what others are doing. You're doing great mama.

6. Use a Baby Carrier to free up your hands

Every hand helps and as a Mama, you may find yourself wishing you had three. Save yourself the physical strain and free up an extra hand with one of our Baby Carriers. Babywearing is a great way to have your baby close while getting your daily tasks done. So many Mum's agree that they couldn't live without one - just read our reviews!

7. Have a support system of other new Mums

It's important to remember that you're not the only mama out there who may be or have struggled in the newborn phase. With many new Mum support groups available online these days, there's many ways you can reach out for support. Try joining a Facebook group today (ahem, Chekoh Chatter), and talk with Mums who are sharing the experience.

8. Take advantage of online shopping and delivery services

Don't let the marvellous invention of online deliveries go to waste! Forget that extra trip to the shops or busy rush through grocery checkouts. If you can save yourself the effort and get what you need delivered to your doorstep - do it.

9. Don't be afraid to say no to visitors or outings if you're not up for it

Ditch the guilt Mama, it's completely understandable if you're not up for visitors after multiple sleepless nights. Friends and family who are here to support you should understand this, and don't forget rescheduling is a thing too. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future to catch up (on a full nights sleep).

10. Enjoy the journey and cherish the memories

Lucky last, we just want to remind you the nights might feel long but the years go by all too fast. Enjoy those precious moments when they're young, because they'll be over before you know it Mama.

Your new Mama journey may be overwhelming but also incredibly rewarding. As you navigate the ups and downs, remember to take care of yourself, ask for help when needed, and cherish the special moments with your little one. Keep in mind that every baby and every mother is unique, so trust your instincts and find what works best for you and your family.
